Drawing on research into metacognition, multilingual learning, and reading comprehension, this presentation will explore practical approaches suitable for primary and secondary EAL learners. It will also demonstrate how teachers can gradually move responsibility from teacher modelling to supported discussion and, ultimately, independent student decision-making. Participants will leave with practical prompts and classroom routines they can use immediately.
